A Quick Description

Your students are going to a leprechaun family reunion. Students complete 10 fourth grade math challenges that are leprechaun themed and engaging. I love to use it during the month of March to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. St. Patrick's Day math is way more fun when you're hanging out with leprechauns at a reunion!

Print out all 10 leprechaun posters and all 10 leprechaun math challenges. Distribute them around your room. Give each child a recording sheet. Explain to students that they will be meeting all the leprechauns at a family reunion. They have to find all ten leprechaun relatives you've left around the classroom and solve the challenge at each leprechaun's location. They use the recording sheet to mark off each challenge as they go.

How to Play

Step 1: Tell your class that they are going to a leprechaun family reunion today and will practice fourth grade math concepts. Students solve math challenges set up around the room. They can be completed in any order and you can choose how many challenges students complete or what time frame they have to meet YOUR needs.

Set-up is quick and easy. Simply print the 10 posters, the math worksheets, and a recording sheet for each student. Place them around your room and you’re ready to begin! Additional door décor, editable name tags, editable admission tickets, and themed banner are included if you want to use them!

Step 2: Let students move around the room and solve each challenge! Each time students solve a math challenge, they go to the teacher to get it checked. Students can work independently, in partners, or groups. Your choice!

Step 3: When students finish all ten challenges (or however many you assign), they win! You can give them the certificate of completion included. I also reward my students with a green cookie at the end.

Step 4: Most of the time, there are early or fast finishers! These kiddos get to go around the room and scan the QR codes provided. Each QR code leads to a fun "fact" about leprechauns that they can record on the sheet provided or a piece of notebook paper. This keeps everyone happy and on task!

There is an editable challenge paper included. This means if one of the challenges doesn't work for your classroom, you can make your own! There are ten pre-made challenges included for you to use but we all know sometimes changes are necessary to best fit your classroom :) These challenges are aligned to Common Core and TEKS.

This is a perfect review activity before giving a 4th grade math assessment or as an extra practice activity. Step by step lesson plans are included so you know exactly what to do. It can be used as a spiral review and is easy to set up and implement. The QR codes add in technology as well. Classroom transformation ideas are a new trend in education and can set the stage to engage!

These classroom transformations can be used for elementary children as a worksheet alternative, printables, in math stations, center rotations, math centers, as enrichment or remediation, in small groups, as test prep, as worksheets,  escape room alternatives, homework practice (take what you don’t finish home for homework), printables, and so much more! These math activities are made to be flexible so you can use them however you’d like in your classroom.

You no longer need to spend hours prepping your classroom for your next classroom transformation! These hands on, low prep activities will keep your students engaged while practicing rigorous material at the same time.

Classify two-dimensional figures based on the presence or absence of parallel or perpendicular lines, or the presence or absence of angles of a specified size. Recognize right triangles as a category, and identify right triangles.
Compare two fractions with different numerators and different denominators, e.g., by creating common denominators or numerators, or by comparing to a benchmark fraction such as 1/2. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Explain why a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 is equivalent to a fraction (𝘯 × 𝘢)/(𝘯 × 𝘣) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
Find all factor pairs for a whole number in the range 1-100. Recognize that a whole number is a multiple of each of its factors. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is a multiple of a given one-digit number. Determine whether a given whole number in the range 1-100 is prime or composite.
Find whole-number quotients and remainders with up to four-digit dividends and one-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value, the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division. Illustrate and explain the calculation by using equations, rectangular arrays, and/or area models.
