Looking for March math centers for your younger students? My St. Patrick's Day math center unit is Montessori-inspired and takes into account the varied needs and levels of the Pre-K - First Grade classroom. I am creating this unit for my own Montessori classroom and materials, but you will find that it can be used in more than one kind of setting. You will not need to own any Montessori materials for your students to enjoy this!
There are 4 types of activities with ways to differentiate the center to help students develop number sense, order, a concrete idea of quantity, and basic operations.
Shamrock counters for Numbers 0 - 9 will help students associate a concrete number of objects with the correct numeral. For older students, this is also a great way to teach odd and even numbers by pairing the objects.
Leprechaun Hat Number Order 1-20 helps students to practice ordering numerals and also allows the teacher to assess that skill as well as students' identification of numerals out of context.
Golden Coins counting and addition give students practice counting and adding numbers on three different levels. This activity uses the decimal system and you could add Montessori "Golden Beads" or Base Ten blocks to make the activities more concrete.
There are three Lucky Hundred’s Chart Printables and an answer key / Control Chart.
Thank you very much for considering this Math unit! Make sure you check out the demo! I sincerely hope this helps you with your students. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
