This product features two separate activities that can be used during the month of March as centers, small groups, or as an independent lesson for 1-2 days.
This product focuses on money– specifically, identifying money amounts that are greater than, less than, and equal to another amount and making change.
VA (Math) SOL 3.8: The student will determine, by counting, the value of a collection of bills and coins whose total value is $5.00 or less, compare the value of the bills and coins, and make change.
Activity One: Students use the set of money picture cards and money amount cards to work with a partner or small group to be the first person who is out of cards. This activity includes student directions, an answer key, and the cards needed to play the game. Students will identify the different money amounts in their hand of cards and decide if that amount is less, more, or equal to the center card.
Activity Two: Students each have their own “ladder” game board and work to make it to the top without running out of money and being sent back to the bottom. Students will read cards and identify if they are adding or subtracting to their existing amount of money. This game can be played with pencil/paper to add/subtract money amounts or can be played with paper money for younger students. It includes four game boards, playing pieces, game cards, and student directions.
