This poem is to motivate students for St. Patrick's Day and to have fun.
For ESL and language arts classes, the teacher should first present new vocabulary items (shamrock, leprechaun, pot of gold, etc.) Teacher drawn visuals can be used, or St. Patrick's Day cardboard visuals found in most stores in March would be most useful. I must admit that my pupils always appreciated my own hand-drawn visuals simply because I draw like a kid!
If desired, the teacher can encourage pupils to write their own poems on the topic using the vocabulary.
Another fun activity I tried was to have students recite the poem as fast and clearly as possible. I asked specific pupils to use a stopwatch to time the duration of each recitation. Teams can be created, and the team with the least amount of minutes wins. I guarantee the kids really love this activity.
