Description

Make improving reading fluency, creative writing, and word work skills a bit more magical with this St. Patrick's Day poetry unit! This set includes six original, thematic poems written to help your primary grade students have a rhyming good time! It also includes related story prompts, story writing templates, word work practice, and vocabulary cards.

All of these activities are sure to add a wee bit of luck and a lot of holiday magic to your March literacy lessons! The materials can be used for either whole group lessons or as individual practice activities.

The six poems can easily be printed two-per-page and collated into a booklet for partner reading practice. They can also be printed full-size and kept in student fluency folders for group choral readings, small group repeated readings, or home practice. My second graders loved pairing up with their fifth grade reading buddies to practice their reading skills! The writing templates and prompt task cards are perfect for use in a literacy center.

I've included a list of favorite Irish folktales in this resource that you can use as mentor texts before assigning the writing prompts. Folktales are a great way to familiarize your students with St. Patrick's Day lore and traditions. Hop over to my BLOG to read more about how I use this resource in my classroom!
