The song "Patti O'Leary" brings to life the spirit of St. Patrick's Day. This product includes the vocal as well as instrumental version of the song, the lyrics, a crossword puzzle and vowel sound worksheet, rhyming words sheet, comprehension worksheet, beginning letter worksheet and a math activity sheet. Since music is an effective teaching tool, I often use songs in the reading/listening center. The students listen to the song as they follow along reading the lyrics. At some point during the day, as a reward for quietly doing seat work, the students perform the listening center song either as a class or as a small group. "Patti O'Leary" also sparks in the students the desire to dance, so it can be used as part of their required physical activity. This song can also be used with a St. Patrick's Day game. A small green object, such as an eraser, pencil or cube is hidden in the room. The object is hidden in a way that it can be seen without moving objects in the room, but a student might have to stand on tip toe to see it, or reach his hand up to retrieve the item. A student is chosen to hide the object. Another student is chosen to close his eyes so that he isn't able to see where the object is hidden. After the object is hidden, the student who is looking for the object has until the students finish singing the "Patti O'Leary" song to find it. If the object isn't found, the same person who hid it gets another turn. This continues until one of the chosen students finds the object, then it is his/her turn to hide it. .
