St. Patrick's Day STEM Challenge: Paper Bridge - PPT - Grades 3-5

This St. Patrick's Day Paper Bridge STEM Challenge will create positive energy in your classroom while incorporating critical thinking, collaboration, drawing, and measurement in addition to scientific engineering skills.

This product presents a scenario to the students where the leprechaun needs to take his pot of gold to the bank but in order to get there he must cross over an old bridge. The students are asked to create a new paper bridge prototype that would support the weight of the coins (using pennies for testing). Students complete the STEM Design Steps throughout this process and eventually will test their prototypes, troubleshoot any issues, and redesign to try to yield a better product. Students can compete against each other in a friendly competition to see whose paper bridge prototype will be able to support the most coins for the longest amount of time.
