Product Description
COORDINATE PROJECTS and WORD PROBLEMS with an Irish Theme

These projects can be used for St. Patrick’s Day or any Irish activity.

These activities can be used as a class project or something to be worked on independently when time allows. It also works as an extra credit assignment or when there is a substitute teacher.

This package includes:
1. Shamrock in the first quadrant (30 X 40 landscape grid)
2. Shamrock in a 4-quadrant grid
3. Ten word problems

These projects are for the intermediate graphing student who has knowledge of fractions. The graph consists of points in the first quadrant using ordered pairs with whole numbers and a few fractional points using the fractions 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 for detail. When finished, they can use markers, colored pencils or other medium to enhance the project.

This file also contains ten word problems for St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th) based on Pre-Algebra. Students will put their knowledge of fractions, percents, conversions of time and measurement, perimeter, area, and changing square feet to square inches. These problems were created as multi-step problems as practice for most standardized tests.

Instructional Materials Include:
1. Student Directions for Plotting Coordinates
2. Directions for Plotting Coordinates with Fractions
3. Directions for Plotting Coordinates in Quadrant I
4. Directions for Plotting Coordinates in All 4 Quadrants
5. Details for Plotting Coordinates with Fractions in Quadrant I
6. Details for Plotting Coordinates with Fractions in All 4 Quadrants

Also included is:
1. Coordinate graph paper for plotting (Light and Dark Grids)
2. Coordinate list of points to plot
4. Sample of the completed project in color for a Shamrock in the First Quadrant
5. Sample of the completed project in color for the Shamrock using all Four Quadrants
6. Word problems contain space for the students to work out the problems and do the math.

If you like this project, please let me know. There are many projects covering the entire school year and some projects are cross curricular (Sports, Patriotism, Seasons, Holidays, History, Landmarks and Science). Lessons begin at 2nd grade and are appropriate for the Middle School and some for High School students. These projects have been used successfully at both the Elementary and Middle School levels.

NCTM Standards
Specify locations and describe spatial relationships using coordinate geometry and other representational systems.

Common Core State Standards
CCSS.Math.Content.5.G.A.1 Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., x-axis and x-coordinate, y-axis and y-coordinate).

NCTM Standards
Word problems are included in each strand of the NCTM standards.

Common Core State Standards
7.RP Ratios and Proportional Relationships
7Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
7.RP.1 Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units.
7.RP.2 Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.
7.RP.3 Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems.
7.NS.3 Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the four operations with rational numbers.
