WHAT IS THIS? :
This features two full pages of informational text. Students must answer TEXT BASED QUESTIONS for each page of informational text. Use as a CLOSE READING piece.
WHAT ARE THE PASSAGES ABOUT? :
The first title is, "Ireland Today" and is full of facts about the country, including economy, geography and tourist attractions. It is followed by a page of open-ended, text dependent questions. questions.
The second page is titled, "Traditions and Culture of Ireland." It includes facts and details about music, dance food and history of St. Patrick's Day. It is followed by the same quality question types as the first passage.
HOW TO USE THIS:
I plan on using this as a group activity and have the students take turns reading the passage in small group then choosing "canned questions" to answer while the group listens and agrees or disagrees and helps to find the correct answers. There is no writing necessary if you want to make this a speaking and listening activity. Or once agreed apron, you can have one person be the recorder, then rotate jobs (Chooser: chooses the question blindly, Genius: answers questions, and Committee: all the rest of the members of the group) I have included a page of questions that can be easily cut with lines to record answers and a sheet without lines that can be used for a non-writing activity.
