I love making this Irish brown soda bread with my class in Australia! My grandmother passed this on to me a few years ago and it has never failed me! Most of them had never had Irish soda bread as it is not widely available in Australia unlike at home in Ireland. I'm going to make it on St. Patrick's Day this year as they loved the tasters I brought them in last week. Their parents are already looking for the recipe! This could be a nice keepsake to send home with children so they can bake it at home to practise measurement and how to follow a procedure.
I recommend baking it yourself before trying it with a class as different ovens and even the humidity in the air on the day can affect the baking of the bread. Once cooked, I had about one slice per child in my class of 25. Feel free to double the measurements!
