The St. Patrick's Day and Ozobot Creative Writing Challenge is a fun way for students to explore coding, sequencing, and creative writing simultaneously. Students will share St. Patrick's Day legends, myths, and symbols to write a themed story, such as a leprechaun chasing after a pot of gold, or not getting pinched because you forgot to wear green. Students will write a story or a comic. This is a great opportunity for students to write with voice, vivid word choice, and specific details. Students will also code an Ozobot to follow the path through the sequence of events that takes place in the story. My students love to code with Ozobots and this activity helped students who don't necessarily love writing to evolve as writers because of the addition of technology. The final product includes a storyboard laying out the sequence of events and the code for the Ozobot. A PowerPoint that has been changed into a PDF is included to share the assignment with students including the challenge and student examples. Graphic organizers and a rubric are also included. Your students will feel lucky to get a chance to write and explore with Ozobots!
