This St. Patrick's Day packet contains 14 pages of fun! It addresses simple math, reading comprehension, and writing, as well as fine motor skills, such as coloring, cutting, and pasting.
Page 1: Cover sheet. Name goes on page 1.
Pages 2-5: St. Patrick's Day vocabulary. Four words are given with Boardmaker pictures and simple definitions. Page 2 is a teacher guide that can be placed on the projector for review. Pages 3-4 are a cut and paste activity where students match up the picture, word, and definition. Page 5 is a vocabulary test for the end of the unit. Students have to fill in missing letters, idenitfy the correctly spelled word from a field of three, and fill in the blank with the correct vocabulary word.
Pages 6: Cut and paste reading comprehension with Boardmaker symbols
Page 7: Acrostic poem for "Shamrock." Students are to think of words that start with each letter in the word and write it on the line. For students who need assistance, teacher can write the word with a highlighter and student can trace it.
Page 8: Color-coded sentence building. This activity is perfect for teaching students about the mechanics of a sentence. Also excellent practice for occupational therapy skills. Four sentences are provided, each in a St. Patrick's Day-colored box
- teacher or student cuts out the words/pictures on the black lines
- place all word/picture cards together jumbled up
- students use colors, shapes, and sentence clues to create a simple sentence.
- simple sight words are used so that students can read the words and sentence before and after they are cutStudents can use the clues in the sentence to decide which word goes first by the capital letter, and which word goes last with the end punctuation. They can also use the colors to help them, as well as the shapes of the words.
Boardmaker pictures are used to simplify the definitions for students with special needs. When I use this activity with my class, I glue the sentences onto index cards to give them longer life. Another option is to give each student a set, and they can glue the sentences on a piece of paper.
Page 9: Color-coded math. Students solve basic addition problems that equal 7, 8, or 9. They are to color the St. Patrick's Day picture according to their answer.
Pages 10-13- St. Patrick's Day graph. Students cut and paste to build their own graph. They are able to practice cardinality and matching.
Page 14: Fill in the vowels cut and paste activity; incorporates color identification.
Packet would be excellent for general education Pre-K through grade 3, also for all grades with special education students.
