St. Patrick's Day writing - This is a great project to do to bring something different to your St. Patrick’s Day activities. Instead of leprechauns, shamrocks and everything green, why not add something different! I am always amazed at how creative my students are when I ask them to transform a regular potato into a “spud-tacular” creation!

This unit includes everything you will need to have a potato parade in your classroom - and to use your potatoes for some writing fun!
The Potato Process
- Notes From the Classroom: Ideas and suggestions to help you use this product in your classroom
- Potato Peep Photos: examples of potato people from past students
- The Great Potato Famine: information about the history of potatoes in Ireland
- Parent Letter: two versions of a letter to send to families explaining the project, along with a blank template for you to use
- Nametags: display with the finished potatoes

Writing About Your Potatoes
- Potato People Brace Map: students brainstorm ideas about their potato people using can, has and is.
- All About Me: open-ended sheet perfect to use as homework, a plan sheet or a display sheet.
- Potato Person Autobiography: fill-in-the-blank sheet and writing planner to help your students write about their potato creations.
- Autobiography Writing Paper: two types, handwriting lines and regular lines

More Fun!
-Find a Potato Who: a fun activity to do while students “visit” each other’s potatoes
- Potato Bar Graphs: tally and graph how your students prefer to eat their potatoes or what kind of potato creations they made

Be sure to take a look at the preview to see an idea of what is included. Thanks for stopping by! ~ Lisa, Second Grade Stories
