Stack 'Em Up is a hands-on activity designed to help children visualize the meaning of Range, Median, and Mode. First the students use colorful connecting cubes or blocks and follow the directions on the easy to read directions card. They will arrange, count, and order the cubes to find the difference between the greatest amount and the least amount (range), the amount that appears most often (mode), and the amount in the middle (median). Once the children have completed this hands-on practice session (and it can be repeated several times with different handfuls of cubes) it is time to use the recording sheet with a given tally table of Favorite Sports. As children read each question, they are led to discover the correct answers by reading the prompts on the recording sheet.
Connecting cubes or blocks are the only extras you provide for the hands-on portion of this learning activity.
