Do you work in a low-income school? Do you need to help your teachers get on the same level as their students, understanding where they come from? This is the Power Point presentation for you. This 23-page {EDITABLE} presentation helps staff see that kids have more worries than just school. This presentation helps teachers understand that kids don't chose the life they're born into. Their parents faults are not their faults. This Power Point presentation ties in poverty and lack of parent involvement but conveys the message that these type students need a teacher that sees that the student is more than the product they are born into. These students need a teacher that doesn't demean them for their home life, their parent's choices, but sees they are there to encourage a generational change in that student.
This presentation is based on the 3rd grade teacher, Kyle Schwartz, in Denver, CO that uses one sentence to get to know her students: "I wish my teacher knew _______." Kyle Schwartz has received some very insightful info about her students by asking them this one question. Included in this presentation is a video on the impact this sentence has made in her classroom, as well as a video from students advocating what they wished their teachers knew about them, plus a staff empathy activity to complete after watching the videos. In addition to the Power Point presentation, there is also a doodle-page for teachers to take notes on and write how they can help make a generational change plus two activities that teachers can use at the beginning of the school year to get to know their students. The sneaker-doodle theme is based on taking a "Walk in my Shoes" to help teachers empathize with their students. Great Power Point for Staff Opening Day!
