One of the biggest things that makes a school a great place to be is the people you work with.
In my first year of teaching a fellow teacher and myself went to a professional development on wellbeing. We were blown away by the amount of negativity we heard from other teachers about the people they worked with. Our school didn't have this problem and we wanted to make sure it stayed this way so we implemented shoutouts.
We placed shoutout cards in our staffroom with a bucket and encouraged our staff to take time every week to write something nice about others. Every Friday morning in our communication meeting myself and the other teacher read these shoutouts to our whole staff and then stick them up on our staffroom wall as a reminder of how much we appreciate each other. At the end of each term the shoutouts are taken off the wall and given to each teacher to keep. In the last year we have had over 17 new teachers join our staff yet our culture of supporting and encouraging each other has stuck.
I have had numerous teachers (including both my principal and deputy principal) saying that it is their favourite part of the week as it just creates a positive vibe before we start our day and sets a culture within our school.
In this download are the shoutout cards and a poster if you wish to display them on the wall :).
