Product Description

These task cards can be used for either Stage 1 or Life Skills Stages 4-5 teachers.

Although the students practice adding up coins it is done using the Working Mathematically strategy of trial and error.

Students need to select the combination/s of Australian coins that meet the given criteria.

This resource uses Australian coins - 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, $1 and $2.  These are pictured on the cards as a memory aid for students. Students could also be given physical coins as manipulatives to place on the circles for extra scaffolding.

Included are 7 different sets of cards & answer sheets.  The 2 easier sets are Aqua & Orange. The other sets are of equal difficulty.  It is recommended that each set is shuffled before use.

Cards marked by a GOLD COIN (in the Yellow & Green sets) have 2 possible answers (you may like to offer a special reward/extra points for anyone who can get both answers.)

Aqua - Use 2 different coins to make the total given.

Orange - Use ___ coins that are the same to make the total given.

Red - Use 4 different coins to make the total given.

Blue - Use 2 different pairs of coins

Green - Use 3 coins the same and 1 different

Purple - Use 3 different coins

Yellow - Use 2 coins the same and 1 different
