Students will receive a handout explaining stage business and a scene analysis worksheet that they can use to consider their own stage business in a performance.
Students can also work in groups to brainstorm different kinds of stage business depending on the location a character is in or how they are feeling at the time. Afterwards students are given a stage business challenge to create a tableau vivant that includes different kinds of stage business for each character in the scene. Emotion and location task cards are included as prompts for students’ group work.
Students will become more aware of their actions on stage, and make more deliberated movements even when they are not the focus of attention in a scene.
