For each stage of mitosis have students use yarn to show their stage. Black yarn used for cell membrane and nuclear membrane, red yarn for spindles, sequins/beads for centrioles, yellow/green/blue/orange yarns to help make the chromosomes. The students label the parts of the stage and they paraphrase what the stage involves. Once the separate groups create their stage put them around the room to conduct a gallery walk. The students then draw each stage, label, and describe each stage on plain white paper.
