Looking for a quick and easy way to introduce your students to the stages or steps of the writing process? Look no further. Prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, publishing - students confuse them all too often.
This concise and appealing presentation and guided note set will be a breeze for both students and teachers. The presentation is included both in a secure PDF and a text-editable Google Slides document.
I use this every year at the beginning of my writing unit, and it provides an excellent foundation for what we will be doing as the unit progresses. My students always struggle to remember the order of the stages of writing (which is important to me because I want them to know what to do in college when they write papers on their own!). I find that introducing and/or reviewing the writing stages formally with a visual aid is more memorable and effective than simply listing off the stages or pointing to a poster.
This writing process lesson also contains an interactive sorting activity and a stages of the writing process in one sentence exercise to help students wrap their heads around the tasks involved with each stage of writing.
If you'd like more inspiration regarding how to turn this activity into a two-day lesson and begin with a unique kinesthetic hook, check out the post on my blog called "A Unique Kinesthetic Writing Process Activity for Older Students".
I hope your students enjoy this writing process lesson.
