This is an excellent 30+ pages of PowerPoint slide that walks teachers through preparing students for standardized tests. (English/Lang.Arts) After 20 years of experience and dozens of hours of collecting suggestions and strategies for standardized tests, I put together this unit that is a gem for teachers and students alike.
The unit is divided into a list of 10 tips, tricks, and test taking strategies. The unit can be completed in 4-5 sessions. This was written for middle school aged students, but fourth and fifth graders could learn a lot about standardized test taking techniques in this unit. This unit is better for classrooms that contain one to one computers as the students are expected to practice tests on the web after the teacher instruction section. After each teacher focused instruction portion, students get to practice on real standardized test questions. The unit contains list of the topics that appear on standardized tests and links to other websites that allow students to practice the reading and writing skills tested on all standardized assessments. Teaches will use this unit again and again, year after year because of the common sense approach to standardized test preparation. I have also provided a link to a Google slideshow for those classrooms that use Google extensively. There is a PDF version as well for easy photocopying. Check out the preview for a glimpse at one of the sessions. The unit can easily be adapted to suit the needs/time constraints of individual teachers. The unit covers reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary, but Math students could benefit from the strategies presented. You will not regret this purchase!
