Point of View Mini-Lesson.
PERFECT FOR AN ENGAGING HALLOWEEN or FRIDAY THE 13th ACTIVITY!!
This lesson uses the song "Nightmare on my Street" by Fresh Prince to teach the following ELA Reading Literary Text Standard:
ANALYZE HOW THE AUTHORS DEVELOPMENT OF PERSPECTIVES OF THE CHARACTERS AND READER CREATES SUSPENSE OR HUMOR.
The lesson introduces students to point of view and then challenges students to analyze how point of view builds suspense. Students will enjoy the "scary" , yet comical Fresh Prince lyrics and will, without a doubt, be led to share their own "nightmare experiences". Use this as an introductory lesson before applying skills to larger pieces of literature.
Please note that the song does reference a horror movie, so please preview before using with your classes. This lesson is geared towards 8th-12th graders.
The packet includes:
+ An overview handout that mentions the target standard and its importance
+ A handout that contains the song lyrics, poems and analysis questions
+ An optional "story behind the horror movie" handout
+ Answer keys for the activities
