This set of exit tickets ask questions from the Common Core Informational Reading Standards for 4th Grade (RI 4.1 through RI 4.9), and they work with any non-fiction book or article. They are ideal for standards-based grading. They are designed to build practice into your guided reading time and accountability into your independent reading block. Students need time to read in order to gain skill and by having students respond to rigorous questions, you can ensure that students are reading and thinking at times you are not doing direct instruction. You have the flexibility to assign questions or to let students self-select an exit ticket to match the book they are reading. They are a great way to evaluate the degree in which your students are gaining proficiency for each standard and they add variety to your independent reading time. Rubrics are included to help score responses but there are no answer keys because the questions are meant to be used with many non-fiction books or articles.
