Data notebooks are a great way for students to take ownership of their learning. My printable data notebook allows students to track their progress on each learning target by color-coding their levels of proficiency as they learn and grow. An ice-cream themed color-coded rubric is provided, which includes the proficiency levels and color codes. Spaces are provided for students to write their goals and strategies for success on each standard. Learning targets are included for reading literature, reading informational text, language, and speaking and listening. (Writing standards are not included, but you may add those by copying and pasting the charts and adding another colored banner for writing.)
This completely editable, printable notebook includes my 7th Grade learning targets (I Can Statements) for Ohio's New Revised Standards for ELA, which are very similar to the Common Core. If you use the Common Core, few edits will need to be made. Just compare my learning targets to yours, make your changes, and you're good to go!
This resource is completely compatible with my teacher notebooks for whole class data and individual student progress. It is designed to go with my freebie on TPT: "Ice Cream Themed Proficiency Levels & Color Codes Chart." Please check out my other standards-based and mastery learning products on TPT.
Directions are included in the document. I have the students use colored pencils to color code their work, and I bind these together with a plastic cover on a binding machine for a professional look. The students keep these in their classroom mail slots for easy access. I keep buckets of colored pencils in my classroom where students can access them easily.
NOTE: If you prefer a DIGITAL data tracker to distribute to students, I also have a student digital notebook available on TPT.
