This is an on-going vocabulary curriculum that uses a combination of high-power words and roots and affixes. The goal is to teach students strategies to learn and acquire vocabulary, such as knowledge and use of roots and affixes, as well as context clues, rather than just teaching them random lists of words.
An answer key is provided. This also includes an accommodated tests for students with differing needs.
This was designed with standards-based grading in mind and provides a tiered assessment (level 2, 3 and 4). I also included a scoring guide to clearly delineate what overall score a student would earn based on their performance and the principles of standards based grading.
However, you do not have to be using standards-based grading to make this vocabulary curriculum work in your classroom. It could easily be utilized in a traditionally-scored classroom.
I also created a vocabulary worksheet that I use with my students when I first give them the list of words, roots and affixes. I was not able to upload it with this file, so it will be posted and sold separately. But I will price it very reasonably. It includes word math, and an adaptation of Cornell-note-taking for the words. It also includes a place for students to attempt to use the words in sentences of their own.
When I give the words to students, I have them do an activity to utilize and experiment with the words (it changes with each list). I also post the words around my room and have students use at least one word every day in their warm-up.
