I designed these "Standards for Mathematical Practice" posters to match 2nd grade Common Core State Standards. They will save you time as they make student learning easier and more fun.
You’ll get four types of materials in this set, differentiated to meet your students' needs:
1. Simplified full-color versions, appropriate to hang on the wall. These teach students about their basic goals when solving math problems.
2. Detailed, full-color versions. These contain explanations of what to do before, during, and after attempting a problem. They also include 2nd grade-level examples to show students exactly how they can use the standards in grade-level problems.
3. Simplified black-and-white versions. Many students will benefit from placing these in their math notebooks.
4. Detailed black-and-white versions. Some students will benefit from referring to these versions.
I rephrased some "I can" statements to make the standards more comprehensible to 2nd graders. I also reordered them based on developmental research and how students generally solve problems. I included "persevering" first (MP1). Next, students usually consider using tools (MP5), followed by drawing diagrams (MP4), followed by using numbers and symbols to solve problems (MP2). Students follow the rest in order as they learn to explain their thinking, attend to precision, and look for patterns as well as regularity in repeated reasoning.
