This PowerPoint lesson is fully editable and walks children through several aspects of positive and appropriate self-advocacy. We often talk to kids about advocating with themselves with friends, but how often do we teach them about how to do this with the adults in their lives, too?
This lesson includes information about what self-advocacy is, information about appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication, pictures/examples to identify aspects of nonverbal communication, and an example to role play with the students. It facilitates a lively discussion with students and discussion tips are included in the PowerPoint notes.
Feel free to add your own appropriate examples to role play with students or ask students for examples from their own lives. The background template was left without formatting so users can easily personalize it.
This lesson and discussion take approximately 45 minutes to implement, however, it can be shortened or lengthened as appropriate. Have fun!
