I believe that I have found the perfect reward system that will compliment my love of using a clip chart for behavior management. In previous years I used sticker charts to keep track of good behavior. This usually meant that I stayed after school to add stickers to charts and often forgot to add the stickers or move the clips!
Then the new style of clip charts came out and there was a neutral zone that allowed for more upward movement. I liked this. My new star chart will have 7 stars. One big green star in the center with a smiley face. Above that there will be 3 stars with +1, +2, +3 on them. Teal, blue and purple (respectively). Below the green will be -1, -2, -3 with yellow, orange and red respectively. They all start on green, and can move up or down based on behavior. The positive numbers will earn them star bucks, the negative numbers will lose them bucks.

I created the money from tickets like you would get at a fair. I bought them in three colors from a local teacher/toy supply store. This will build their skip counting skills, money skills (since I used real denominations) as well as their responsibility and organization.

Each child in my room has a pencil bag. They will need to keep their bucks in the bag so that they can spend them on prizes. I only allow them to spend their money on Friday (pay day) and only if they have had good behavior for at least 3 days a week, or improved behavior for kids on improvement plans.

This number will go in their planner at the end of the day to communicate their behavior with their parents!
