Hate grading homework? So do I! After a lot of research on what kind of homework to do, I have found a great alternative that works for my class!
I created this template for Star Homework which is adapted from the Whole Brain Teaching and Universal Homework Model. The big idea is that students get to choose what homework they do and how much they do each night.
I give this template to my students on Monday morning, remind them to complete their Star Homework every day, and then collect them on Friday! The stars that the entire class earns is then added together and if they have reached their goal for the week, they earn their reward! I usually make my goals so each student has to complete 2 stars each night in order for the whole class to reach the shared goal.
Didn't reach the goal?...sorry! Try again next week! This is a great incentive for the students and they begin to hold each other accountable for completing homework. That makes our jobs a lot easier!
I choose to keep each days activities the same but they can be easily modified to fit in your classroom. I have included the template that I use (sides 1 and 2) which I print double sided to give to the students. I also have included a more general template for you to use in your own classroom. These pack is editable so play around with it to see how it fits best into your classroom!
