This poster elegantly displays the lyrics of the American national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner," which turned 200 years old in 2014.
All four of the original stanzas are included in the poster. The lyrics are written in a clear, readable font and the title "The Star-Spangled Banner" is portrayed in script. It would make a great addition to a classroom display or bulletin board about "The Star-Spangled Banner."
Originally a poem by Francis Scott Key entitled "Defence of Fort M'Henry," the song became an instant hit after it was published in a Boston newspaper just days after the Battle of Fort McHenry in 1814. The words were poetically set to "Anacreon in Heaven," a melody of a British men's social club. The song gained in popularity over the next century, and was officially declared the national anthem of the United States by President Hoover in 1931.
This file is 23 inches by 35 inches, perfect for printing on a standard 2 foot by 3 foot poster. You may shrink and scale the poster to print on any size paper without losing image quality. The white background behind the words means you won't waste expensive ink printing in color yet the text will still be readable when printed in black and white. Or, project the image for your students to read, study, or sing.
