In this differentiated practice activity, students will solve one step equations with positive rational numbers on lettered station cards.
Students may select a combination of problems from three tiers of stations: one-star (basic level), two-star (intermediate level), and three-star (challenge-level). Students aim to earn twenty stars total as they through the activity and may select a combination of problems at an appropriate challenge-level for themselves to earn enough points.
There are six one-star stations, seven two-star stations, and six three-star stations for students to choose from. One-star equations use whole numbers. Two-star equations use some fractions and/or decimals. Three-star equations require move involved fraction calculations.
Students record their work on an easy-to-grade record sheet. There is an optional Answer Bank to post in the classroom to accompany the stations cards to make the activity more self-checking. As students complete problems on the cards, they may check that their answer appears in the Answer Bank before moving on.
This is a self-paced, differentiated opportunity for your students to focus on one step equations at different levels within the same classroom activity.
