Description
In my classroom, I have a weekly "Star Student". I have a special table for this student to sit at all week (similar to a VIP table you may have seen). There is a special basket of pens and other stationary items for the student to use. After the first week of school I choose a student to be the "Star Student" the next week. I recognize them on Monday morning and hand we hang the certificate they receive on the wall above our "Star Student" table. I also have a banner hanging above the table. (The certificate and banner are what is included in this download). When I recognize this student for the first time, I give a reason that I selected them (ex: good work habits, focus, great effort, showing a great character trait, etc.) From then on, the Star Student is in charge of selecting the student for the following week. We usually announce it on Friday afternoon or Monday morning. My personal classroom rule is that a boy always chooses a girl and a girl always chooses a boy. It helps mix up who is selected each week. My students always amaze me with how observant they are and I love seeing who they pick and why! Once in a while, I may mention to the Star Student that I saw another student do something awesome and that they may want to keep an eye on that student as the possible Star Student for next week. At the end of the week, the student gets to bring home their certificate that was hanging above the table. Kids always love this recognition and it is a great way to recognize positive behavior.
