This the first of 3 lessons covering the original Star Wars trilogy. They are a bit unorthodox and different than a lot of my other lessons, but I still feel they are useful. As a native English teacher, one of my main duties is to broaden horizons and be an ambassador of Western culture, and I can't think of anything more emblematic of Western popular culture than the Star Wars trilogy. I would view it as a personal and professional failing if we parted ways without my students knowing what a Jedi, a lightsaber, or the Force was.
The PPT is pretty straight forward. All of the good guys have their names in blue, all of the bad guys in red, and all the vocabulary words are in green. There are 3 quizzes to check comprehension throughout the lesson, and a few clips of important scenes in the film. Back when I would teach to smaller classes and younger kids, I would end the lesson with them trying to fire a Nerf dart through an exhaust port mock up I made out of poster board. That was always a big hit. Anyway, if you enjoyed the lesson, be sure to check out "The Empire Strikes Back"
and "Return of the Jedi"
at ESL In Asia
. Good luck!
