The purpose of this unit is to actively engage students in a process that will foster an awareness of an artist’s purpose regardless of the medium, which is inherently engrained across cultures. The scope and sequence of the unit will allow students an opportunity to delve into the labyrinthian nature of archetypes, which seem simplistic at first but undoubtedly can become very complex and multi-faceted. This bundled unit will take students on an adventure that will engulf their imaginations and allow them to explore the hidden nature of archetypes. Each guide contains the following:
Answer keys along with movie study guide questions,
12 stages of the hero's journey map,
several extension activities, and
multiple essay writing prompts.
Some guides will include the following:
plot situational worksheets,
a timed writing prompt, and
take home essay prompt.
Each movie can stand alone but also is an integral part of a larger scale 12 week unit I used over the years in conjunction with The Odyssey and The Old Man and the Sea. After completing my archetype unit, my students told me they would never read another book or watch another movie without seeing and understanding the reason an artist incorporates an archetype in his/her work. Star Wars Units for Episodes I-VI can be used individually, but each contributes in part to tracing the hero's journey of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in its entirety.
The notes section of the bundle contains the following:
Archetype PPT (complete with Star Wars scrolling text introduction)
Outline of the Notes
Notes Study Guide
Notes Test (2 Versions)
12 Stages Quiz
As this unit is constantly evolving, I welcome feedback to improve the unit so that it works even better for you, me, and most importantly the students it serves.
