This is an essential teaching tool that puts the teacher in charge of the classroom while training students to get in charge of themselves. This activity trains students to have the ability to stop and think, and learn to raise their hands instead of blurting, talking out, or making sound effects. I use this daily to instill a habit of hand raising and self-management skills. This gives the external structure needed in a classroom environment while training students to gain the internal structure to manage themselves. It is one of my most valuable tools in having a safe learning environment where the teacher is training, and the students are gaining the important skills needed for learning to take place.
