Star of the Week:
Doing the Star of the Week is
easy and fun! It helps you get to know your students and gives your kids an opportunity to share
fun facts about themselves. They get a chance to
speak in front of their peers and
share exciting information! This program is an easy, fool-proof way to implement Star of the Week in your room!
First, send home the note (included in this unit) with your chosen student on a Wednesday or Thursday of the previous week. This gives the parents plenty
of time to prepare a poster with their child.
We start Star of the Week on Monday. The child shares the poster they bring in with the class. After they share, the students have an opportunity
to ask the “Star” about their poster or different questions about them. We usually let the students ask 5 - 10 questions depending on time constraints.
On Wednesday, the “Star” brings in 3 items to share with the class. Again, classmates are given time to ask questions about the “Star” and about their share items.
On Friday, all of the students brainstorm ideas about the “Star Student.”
For example, Mary is a star because,
-she is a nice friend
-she is helpful
-she really likes horses and other animals
These ideas, along with others are written on the board. Each student completes a star student paper (included) while the “Star” completes the cover. Once everyone has completed the pages, a book is compiled for the “Star” to take home and keep.
