My students have always eagerly awaited their week to be the Star of the Week in our class. I have linked this traditional primary grade activity to the literacy curriculum expectations to create a week long set of oral presentations which culminates with the class writing a class book for the star. It gives students a meaningful opportunity to participate in oral language and improve their presentation skills daily in a safe and comfortable environment. As this activity takes almost a whole school year to complete, I choose a small group of students each day to assess their oral skills rather than assess the star on their work. You may edit the curriculum expectations to reflect your provincial or state curriculum wording. You may also type your teacher name after the sincerely on the letter to parents. I have also posted my class book writing pages that I use for this activity as a free item. The page views do not show the star boarder art surrounding each page. It also I hope that you enjoy using these activities with your class.
