Description

Trying to squeeze some social skills and some fun into an already packed school day? These plays help build fluency, oral speaking, reading comprehension, prediction, as well as building social skills and group dynamics!

Why use Starring Empathy? Classroom teachers have very little time and many responsibilities and expectations. Combining important reading skills with important social skills is a win-win!

How it works: This resource contains 5 reader's theater scripts. Each script presents a typical problem, but doesn’t give a solution. The performers reach a point in the script where they stop and discuss possible solutions (using empathy) to the problem. Then they come to an agreement and create an ending for the performance. The situations are those students can definitely relate to: someone getting hurt, missing a parent, forgetting something from home, being left out, and being a new kid. These plays give students an opportunity to solve these problems with empathy.

What’s included: This resource has five short plays with a twist: the audience and the actors are encouraged to create the ending themselves, using empathy as their goal. Each play has 4 characters.
