Stars and Constellations is a collection of two lessons that go hand in hand with each other. It is a shortened version of a bigger unit called Stars, Galaxies, Constellations and the Universe.
This mini-unit has 2 lessons, a 33 slide power point with animations, and 10 printable pages including writing prompts, task cards, centers, student learning maps, and activities! Your kids will love this unit!
I designed all of my "space units" to go along with an interactive animated power point that will help engage your students with great visuals and opportunities for learning. Both of these lessons have animated power point slides to guide you through the lesson. Each lesson also includes a 5-E style lesson plan format.
Lesson One investigates the question "Why don't we see stars during the daytime?" This lesson focuses mainly on the brightness of our sun and how that affects our view of the sky. Students will learn facts about the sun, and relative sizes of celestial bodies in our universe, especially other stars. Students will also learn other things like why stars appear in different colors to us.
Lesson Two investigates the question "How would you recognize patterns of stars in the night sky?" This lesson focuses on constellations, and shows students how to recognize the Big Dipper, the Little Dipper, and Orion. The power point also has a visual that will help students find recognize the north star! There is also a hyperlink to a constellation activity, and students will also learn how the rotation of Earth affects our view of the stars and constellations like Orion. Students will e gvenain understanding as to why it is hotter in the summer. Not because we are closer to the Sun, but because we are tilted towards the Sun, which provides more direct sunlight.
This two lesson mini-unit also comes with lots of printables!
