One thing I like to do during the first few days of class is make certain that my students are comfortable with where everything in my room is located, and have a good idea of how things work.
Rather that explicitly teach them everything, I created this scavenger hunt. It worked so well that, with a little tweaking, I've been using it with great success for over 8 years!
Obviously, this would need to be modified to work with your classroom setup, but it should give you some good ideas.
Benefits of using this activity:
-Good indicator of how students work together
-Students figure things out on their own
-Introduction to time limits, activity expectations
-Allows the teacher to learn about a new group of students, while the student learn about the classroom
Includes some basic guidelines and teacher explanation in the document.
REMEMBER - FEED YOUR BRAIN - WITH SCIENCE!
