Looking for a way to spice up your state report project? Try having each student create an alphabet book about his/her state! Students can use books, websites, encyclopedias, and almanacs to research their states. After conducting their research and taking detailed notes, they can create a digital or paper alphabet book to teach others about their state.
This PDF file includes A to Z notes sheets that students can use to research and record information about their states. Each notes sheet lists the letter of the alphabet, the topic, and guiding research questions. There is also space on the sheet to record notes and the source that was used for information.
There are 26 notes sheets altogether, each of which focuses on a different letter of the alphabet:
A: Area and Abbreviation
C: Capital and Cities
D: Date of Statehood
...and so on, all the way to Z!
In addition, there is a page at the end of the document with student-friendly directions for citing sources and creating a bibliography.
This is a GREAT end-of-the-year research project that you can use to culminate your study of U.S. history or geography. My students look forward to it every year!
