The Pennsylvania School Librarians Association runs a book contest each year called the PA Young Readers’ Choice Awards Program
. There are four categories: K-3, Grades 3-6, Grades 6-8, and Young Adult, and there are approximately 15 books in each category. Many other U.S. states have similar student voting contests featuring high-quality literature and informational texts.
This EDITABLE freebie contains promotional materials and a lesson plan for a state book contest, and it is designed specifically to promote the PA Young Readers’ Choice Award Program. The promotional signs are for middle and high school, the literacy center or library center signage is for the K-3 and Grades 3-6. The lesson plan has standards for grades 3-5, but can be modified easily for any grade level.
All of the promotional signs and center signs have spaces to insert QR codes and/or hyperlinks to Mackin booktalks
, or to a Google form for student voting.
