As part of a social studies unit of study on the United States or a social studies unit of study on the similarities and differences across states, this project provides students with the opportunity to use reading, writing and art skills to assemble a creative state box representative of their research.
Long term projects are a fantastic way to build presentation skills and time-management skills while encouraging independent research on a specific topic.
This project lends itself well to individual state box presentations where students can use their speaking skills to articulate their understanding. In addition, as one student presents his/her box the remaining students are listening and learning about each different state. Teachers can encourage students to take notes during presentations or simply come up with questions or comments after each presentation.
The project plan includes project instructions, extra credit options, project rubric, and multiple sample images to share with the class.
Each year I've done this project, students have loved putting together and presenting their boxes to the class!
Please share your experiences. I love to get feedback on this project plan and all of my products.
All the best,
