Students love learning the shapes of the states and these flash cards provide a fun classroom practice or if you wish competition by which to achieve the goal of identifying the 50 states. This is best used with a memorization practice and a blank 50 states map. Using a labeled map have the students memorize the states by touching each state and saying aloud the name of the state. Use the flash cards for a systematic review. Then test using the blank map. Once they learn the states in order, make a copy of the file and go to the slide sorter to mix them up for a second level challenge or game.
