This basic project is a good introduction to researching a state using the internet or an atlas. Information to be researched includes capital city, major cities, population and diversity, economy, natural resources, and terrain features. The students must also complete an outline map of their state, including making a map key. Instructions for the project are as follows:
1. Choose a state
2. Research the necessary items needed for your state project using the internet, an atlas, or a textbook.
3. Draw and color the national flag of the state. (Additional assignment idea: Have students explain what the colors and images on the flag stand for)
4. Using an outline map of the state, create a map of the state, including the creation of a map key. (Compass and scale may also be included)
This activity is a good beginning to researching information about specific states.
