This is a handout that can be used with most social studies books or booklets.
It asks students to identify a state's capital, abbreviation, nickname, flower, bird, date of statehood, and an interesting fact. You could do each state in order or you could assign a state based on your current social studies unit.
There is a map for students to locate and label the state.
There is also a space at the end of the activity to draw either the state flower, bird, or flag. This is the extension of the activity for students who finish the activity quickly.
You could glue these into an interactive notebook or just keep in a folder. By the time you finish, students will have a complete comprehensive informational guide of the United States-- great to refer back to for a cumulative exam or project.
Note: For my classroom, I use the "50 Great States" booklet, published by bendon Reading Discovery, level 3 for grades 2-4. You could use a different resource, as this product is not specific to the booklet I use.
