Product Description
This download includes two versions (Honors and Academic) of a common core aligned enrichment assignment I use with my students at the beginning of the semester in a Law and Justice class. The download also includes an answer key.

Students are given two readings on the philosophies of John Locke and Thomas Hobbes concerning human nature and how human nature causes the need for the formation of a governing body. Students will compare and contrast the two philosophers beliefs to better understand their arguments. Students will then examine two modern examples of how a State of Society can turn into a State of Nature and what causes those changes. Students enjoy this lesson and at the end they have a thorough understanding of how human tendencies create the need for a governing body and why the Social Contract exists.
