Try this fun puzzle activity to help your students memorize the 50 US states and capitals, plus other state facts!
Here's what's included:
•50 puzzles, each with unique cut-outs (3 pieces/puzzle)
•Each puzzle piece has either the state name, state capital, or picture of the state written on it. Students must match the 3 correct pieces.
•Each puzzle piece also includes one state fact: either the state's nickname, bird, or flower. These are additional tidbits of information that could be used as clues to find the other pieces, or used purely as interesting facts.
•2 puzzles per printed page (25 pages = 50 states total)
Variety of Uses:
•Small group learning center memorization game (you can use all of the state puzzles, or just a few, depending on time and needs)
•Whole class game—Students find their “partners” with the matching pieces (or you can turn it into a game of “I Have [State Name]....Who Has [the capital].....”)
•Cut out each puzzle piece along the solid lines.
•I suggest you laminate the puzzles then cut out the pieces to make them durable so they can be used year after year, or at least print on durable paper, such as card stock or construction paper.
•Print/cut multiple sets for your classroom as needed.
Enjoy! I hope you find this to be a useful resource!
