Students will complete the flowchart alone or as notes with you. The flow chart will include definition, examples and “what” and “why” matter is classified into specific categories. (Matter, Substances, Mixtures, Elements, Compounds, Hetero and Homogeneous, Suspensions, and Colloids)I have them work for 10 to 15 minutes alone and then discuss their findings and add my notes. Once finished students classify each type of matter into compound, element, solution, heterogeneous, homogeneous mixture, colloid and/or suspension.
