This states of matter mini unit allows students to learn and interact with key vocabulary and understandings of solids and liquids. Written specifically for 1st grade standards, this lesson can be utilized and adapted to meet the needs of many grade levels.
The first lesson uses context clues from any text on the states of matter (What Is The World Made Of? by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld is a great one!) to understand matter, solids, and liquids. Get the book here: http://amzn.to/2HbqARo
The second lesson allows students to utilize their understandings from lesson 1 in a real-world application: baking! Students melt chocolate to make it liquid, and then turn the liquid back into solid as they make chocolate-covered pretzels. This would be a great activity for any holiday treat!
